death / rebirth

“If the world is to be healed through human efforts, I am convinced it will be by ordinary people, people whose love for this life is even greater than their fear.”
― Joanna R. Macy

let there be no fear in my heart
for, as I grow, so too, I die
it is but the loss of familiarity that frightens me

but, when I step with courage
and wonder and trust
I step where endings and beginnings are One

and when I walk through the woods
I follow the deer’s steady path
and when she walks through the woods
she follows my uncertain path
and the two pathways become One
for, though we walk with no map,
we are not without direction

these words rise up in me as I walkabout through Starky’s Hill, in Guelph, Ontario
beckoning curiosity, integrity, and courage with each step

happy new year to you and those you love
may you always walk remembering the sweetness of your “essential-self”
